Mars after being terraformed
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is the second most important world to humanity after their homeworld Earth. It has to moonlets Phobos and Deimos both thought to be captured asteroids. Deimos is a penal mining colony and Phobos is a meteorologist station. Mars was formed around 4.54 billion years ago. It eventually formed oceans on it's surface but as it's magnetic field weakened the atmosphere became thin throwing the world into a frozen wasteland which eventually disappeared leaving a barren desolate world. This all changed in 2160 AD when investors agreed to fund a project to terraform the planet by creating greenhouse gas factories which would melt the polar ice caps and introducing algae to the oceans formed by the melting ice with a targeted date of 2230 AD. After several delays the oceans were filled with algae by 2244 AD. The planet was considered fully Earth-like by 2296 AD. Today, Mars is home to 950 million humans and an additional 12 million in orbit. Most live in or near cities, but there are many nomadic roaming groups.
